Wojnar's Liptauer Scharf (Spicy Cheese Spread)

Spicy paprika cheese spread · Wojnar's · Spreads & condiments

7/10worth it

Why it's worth it

Liptauer is Vienna's classic paprika-and-Brimsen cheese spread, and Wojnar's is the Viennese deli name most tied to it, made to an old recipe with butter, sheep's cheese and paprika. In an Austrian consumer taste test the branded tub actually scored behind Wojnar's own store-label versions, so it is an honest rather than a flawless buy, but it remains the recognisable name-brand tub of a spread that has no branded equivalent on Czech supermarket shelves.

Taste

Creamy sheep's-cheese (Brimsen) spread laced with paprika and onion; the Scharf version has a sharp chilli kick, sold alongside a milder classic version

If you know Czech shelves

Closest Czech cousin is a paprika cheese spread (sýrová pomazánka), but there is no branded Liptauer equivalent on Czech shelves
