Club-Mate Original

Fizzy caffeinated mate drink · Club-Mate · Soft drinks · Berlin / Franconia

9/10must-try

Why it's worth it

Brewed by the Loscher brewery in Franconia from yerba-mate extract, Club-Mate is the cult caffeine drink of Berlin's club and hacker scene, with roughly the caffeine of a cup of coffee per half-litre. It is hard to find in mainstream Czech shops, and its bitter-tart profile is unlike any Czech soft drink, making it a very Berlin souvenir. For its caffeine, less suited to small children.

Taste

Carbonated yerba-mate extract drink; slightly bitter and tart, low sweetness, refreshing once acquired, with a gentle caffeine kick

No Czech supermarket analog; closest is imported mate or energy drinks, but the flavour is distinct
